Grey and Thespian Mardi Gras
The Grey & Thespian Mardi Gras is an initiative of the Hawks Nest / Tea Gardens Progress Association Inc and Myall Coast Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Inc. It is organised with the valued assistance of the Myall Coast Entertainers, Myall U3A, Hawks Nest Golf Club, Great Lakes Council and a supporting cast of tireless volunteers.
The Mardi Gras is held in conjunction with NSW Seniors Week with the kind support of the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.
Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens are represented in census statistics as having the highest median age in NSW, followed by the surrounding areas of Tuncurry and Port Stephens.
The inaugural Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens 2016 Grey and Thespian Mardi Gras is a celebration of Senior Citizens with a vision to be a substantial annual event of significant regional importance. Its aim is to provide a friendly and inclusive event for the whole community that highlights the contribution of senior citizens in our community, that showcases the facilities, services and activities available to seniors in our community, that promotes intergenerational relationships with a focus on youth week and to introduce and establish Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens as a destination of distinction for seniors.
The twin towns of Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens are ideally situated on the north shore of Port Stephens and just 50 minutes from Newcastle, 2 1/2 hours from Sydney, and 1 hour south of Forster and Taree.
It is an ideal place for a day trip, a weekend or an extended stay. Take the turn off from the Pacific Hwy near 'the Rock' or take the scenic drive from the north at Bulahdelah and travel between the ocean and lakes through the famous Myall Lakes National Park.
